Introduction of the general surgery department

The department of general surgery is a main component of the “national key discipline-general surgery” of Ministry of Education of China. It provides both doctoral and master programs. There are 12 Ph.D. supervisors, 24 master supervisors and 10 inpatients areas (part of the inpatients areas are located in Lingnan hospital). The annual outpatient visit is above 120 thousand in total.

The Department is consisted of portal hypertension surgery department, hepatobiliary surgery department, pancreatic surgery department, thyroid & breast surgery department, gastrointestinal surgery department, hernia surgery and anorectal surgery department and the other sub-specialties. Most surgeries are performed by laparoscope, even single-port laparoscopy. The portal hypertension surgery, especially the surgery of pericardial devascularization plus endoscopic variceal ligation by laparoscope and gastroscope are the top-ranking minimally invasive procedures in China.?
